This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our garden is almost 4 acres. There are trees and over 40 raised beds. To grow fruits and vegetables, we need to replenish and fertilize our soil. By helping us replenish our soil, we can grow organic fruits and vegetables. In the Spring, our students planted corn, carrots, strawberries, blueberries, and many other fruits and vegetables. We are successfully maintaining our apple, pomegranate, and cherry trees. With your support, we will also be able to keep the Bermuda grass that sometimes invades our trees and boxes. Having a weed trimmer will help us tremendously, as we won't have to wait for the plant manager to help us maintain the weeds around our boxes. Sometimes it can take up to 8 months. Students will learn how to operate the weed trimmer and turbine blower properly and will be supervised at all times.

By having these tools, our garden will be more inviting, and more students and staff members will be able to walk around our premises, feeling a sense of peace and calmness.

Our goal is to create a space where students and staff can debrief and disconnect from their daily activities, and provide a place for mental health awareness. We would like to see more classes visit the garden and appreciate our green space, which consists of trees, flowers, bushes, succulents, and garden beds. We want to continue providing our students with a space to learn about growing their food and appreciate the process. Lastly, we would like to invite the community to create gardening classes, provided by our students, on how to make a garden at home.
