Culture is a huge part of learning Spanish. My students are immigrants and/or first generation American and about 75 percent have never been outside of our city. By having my students go on virtual tours to Perú, España, México and the rest of the Spanish Speaking world it will allow my students to see how much they have in common with other countries and also learn new things about the countries. Due to virtual learning having digital text and materials will help my student explore and learn more. For example, my students would be able to go on a virtual tour to Machu Picchu. They will be able to explore the rivers, the history of the Inca Empire, the geography, customs, and traditions that the Inca people teach their children. The materials needed consists of legends, myths, short stories by authors born in that specific country, maps, songs, traditional clothing, current pop culture and history of the country. Learning about the culture of others contributes to mutual understanding, a sense of global citizenship and personal fulfilment. When students learn colloquial words, mannerisms, and everyday life of another culture they begin to be more empathetic. This is what I love about teaching Spanish. These materials will allow the students to keep a virtual interactive notebook as well, where they will have access to all the information for an entire lifetime and hopefully they will be able to refer to the notebook when they travel to one of the countries that they studied about. In addition I chose these materials because they address the needs of my students. My students are visual, auditory and kinesthetic learners. These materials also allow me to modify for students that need extra support in reading and writing.
