We are a hard-working group of students who attend an urban, public school. Our school is located in a wonderful little neighborhood, however, the students in our class ride the bus from many different areas in the city. My students receive special education services throughout the day. They are a very hard-working group who impress me with their strength and perseverance daily.
The students are in a multiple disabilities classroom and require extra support in many different areas.
This includes occupational, speech and physical therapy in addition to the supports they receive for the general school curriculum. No one in our class lets their challenges get in the way of working hard to reach their full potential!
My Project
The traditional classroom setting and seating make an already challenging situation, even more so for my students. The alternative seating options (bean bag seat and comfy couch) will provide an option to some of my students who could really benefit from spaces in the room that offer a calm and safe environment to have that opportunity.
The students in our room have some unique and challenging needs that we work hard to meet every day.
The timer and handwriting activity will benefit some of my students who are learning some of the most basic school skills. Understanding turn-taking and completing one task before moving on to something else are important life-skills, that the timer will assist with. The prewriting magnetic board will help my students who are still learning to write, understand some of the most basic concepts of writing.
