My students are the most lovable, diverse, creative, smiling, sweet, and unique bunch on this earth. They face many changes yearly but the motivation just kicks the can across the art room.
Our school district consolidated 3 Elementary schools into one building and we are one happy family of diverse learners!
Art historically crosses all age gaps, sexual preferences, generations, races, religions, worldly places and political beliefs. Art can be liked and disliked. Art is self reflective, healing and a personal experience. And these children love the release from their everyday lives to just let go and create. And I love sharing my experiences with them.
My Project
My 680 1st-4th grade art students are full of creative energy! They had the opportunity to learn the 3 basic clay methods last year. It was awe inspiring! We had every students clay piece in a spring art show and they were so proud to show their family members and friends. And of course, take their artwork home!
My goal this year is to show how using a pottery wheel n molds is just another way to tap into the Earth's gift of clay.
The students enjoyed playing with the clay and creating their own hand built unique piece of art. We made 3 dimensional masks, modern fossils, tooth fairy pinch pots and textured hand bowls. We were able to glaze them and make them shine! The process was enjoyed by all three consolidated elementary schools put into one building for the first time in our school district.
They will be prepared to continue their creative journey when they move up to the middle and high school art classes! The students will have the basic knowledge and experience to pursue the creative dreams!
