Our Classroom Library Books are Older than Our Teacher!!
My students need a fresh selection of books in the classroom library. I have requested some beanbag cushions, learning wedges and new books for the classroom library for an enjoyable, relaxing space to read new books!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are creative little people with amazing imaginations. They love to sing and dance. They have tons of energy and there's never a dull moment in our classroom.
My students love to create and build.
We make projects as groups and on our own. We share them with one another and they love to show off their work and receive a round of applause.
My students are writers. They share their opinion and tell reasons why you should agree with them. They write about the family members they love. They write about having their own home one day. They illustrate and create beautiful images to go with their writing.
My students are my teachers. They live in a community with an extremely high poverty level. Gangs and violence are an issue, poverty is a fact of life, and several students are homeless. They teach me daily about strength, forgiveness, and resilience.
My Project
I want my students to enjoy reading and learning. This means putting books in the library that appeal to their interests. They spend a lot of time at the shelves searching for something they want to read. Our school set a goal to encourage every child to read for at least twenty minutes each day. A better selection will excite the children about reading new books. Then, they can accomplish the school goal and achieve their personal goals of becoming a better reader.
With help from this project, I will provide comfortable cushions, leaning wedges, and new and exciting books to encourage my students not only to read, but to ENJOY reading!
The students can lay in the reading corner on a wedge or bean bag, read their new book, and create a habit of enjoying reading that will hopefully continue as they grow.
