Help me give my students a space in my classroom for my kids to relax. In an active learning classroom, students frequently require a quiet area to gather their thoughts.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Assist in providing a space in my classroom for my kids to relax. In an active learning classroom, students frequently require a quiet area to gather their thoughts. This is an excellent technique to give students a little breathing room before they rejoin the group.
This calming corner is a strategy that directly aligns with our PBIS plan.
Every day, our kids are supposed to be learning in a regular classroom setting, yet they frequently require breaks just like adults do. This is a fantastic method to give students a moment to themselves, gather their thoughts, and then re-join the group when they're ready. This will assist with daily frustrated behaviors and outbursts.
In our Title One school emotional and physical regulation are prioritized in trauma-informed practices. Teaching and practicing the SEL skills kids need to improve their capacity to regulate is part of having a calming area. We build relationships and let the kids know they belong in this community by giving them opportunities to practice these skills in the classroom. A private area with equipment and posters promoting soothing techniques will be located in the corner.
