Our Class Will Floor You- With a New Carpet

Help me give my students comfortable and enjoyable seating on a new carpet while doing whole group, mini-lessons, and cooperative learning.

My Students

My students are eager to learn kindergarteners. They allow everything excite them! As we are nearing the end of our second quarter we are beginning to learn how to read new words. I love seeing my students working to "grow their brains" as they use their letter knoweldge to produce sounds and create words!! We also have been working so hard on learning addition and subtraction concepts. They love the hands on activites that require them to manipulate numbers.

As a first year teacher, I find myself learning from my students all of the time!

I gained an appreciation for the drive, ambition, and pride that some students have, against all odds. They show me how important positive feedback and recognition is, and that I have a gift to love other peoples children. They have also pushed me to be a constant and willing learner- just as I expect them to be!

My students are abitious, creative and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions!

My Project

"Meet me on the carpet." "Make a circle around the carpet." "Find a bubble spot." "Turn and talk to your partner." "You and your partner can work on the carpet today." These are phrases that you would hear me say daily if you were in my classroom. The carpet is where we learn about math, reading, and writing. All my whole group lessons take place using my white board and apple tv. The carpet faces both those things- which makes it convenient to have my students all in front of me at once. The carpet is where we make new friends, listen to others express their ideas, and also where you can dive into a good book.

Our carpet is the heart of our classroom learning and community.

However, my carpet is getting old and is ready to be retired-desperately. This is my first year as a teacher, the carpet was left in my room, and while I am grateful to have one at all I believe my students deserve a clean, cozy place to spend their time, while in our classroom.
