These are phrases that you would hear me say daily if you were in my classroom. The carpet is where we learn about math, reading, and writing. All my whole group lessons take place using my white board and apple tv. The carpet faces both those things- which makes it convenient to have my students all in front of me at once. The carpet is where we make new friends, listen to others express their ideas, and also where you can dive into a good book. Our carpet is the heart of our classroom learning and community. However, my carpet is getting old and is ready to be retired-desperately. This is my first year as a teacher, the carpet was left in my room, and while I am grateful to have one at all I believe my students deserve a clean, cozy place to spend their time, while in our classroom.
