Our classroom this year is made up of a diverse group of students with diverse background experiences and needs. We have four languages in the classroom, which include Arabic, Spanish, Nepali, and English. We have a few students working with Title I interventionists in reading and in math. In addition to our English as a second language learners and intervention students, we also have students with special needs.
This spectrum of abilities has created a collaborative, creative, curious, compassionate, and empathetic classroom community.
We are striving to build one another up socially and academically by choosing kindness and optimism as we work together. This is an engaging group that works best with hands-on and authentic learning experiences.
My Project
This year we have a betta fish named Coral Ember as our class pet! He is currently living in a little bowl with a little vine inside. Some of my students have never had a class pet or any pet in their life. Since we were gifted Coral Ember, my students have been curious to learn all about fish. They've started checking out books from the library on fresh water fish, reef fish, deep sea fish, and more!
The purpose of this project is to support our thirst for knowledge about our class pet.
We would like the 5 gallon tank, gravel, and silk plants to give Coral Ember some space to move and grow. We would also like to have the heater to keep the tank the optimal temperature. Unfortunately our school get cold over night and on the weekends. We've learned that water we can drink is not water our betta can live in. Therefore we would like to have some water purifier so our betta can acclimate to their new environment. The books are a great resource to continue our learning about what sparks our interest!
