Our City in Our School

My students need 9 basic supplies such as tape, crayons, and glue.

My Students

Students are interested in the structure of buildings and how they are put together. This has enlightened their sense of imagination as well as their interest in constructing their own buildings.

The children in my school are mainly African American and from low income families.

Some of these children have not been exposed to areas outside of their neighborhood. During a lesson on communities they were very interested in the structure of the buildings they saw around them as well as the buildings in the down town areas of the city. Questions came to mind How can we make a building like that at school, hence the interest in our upcoming art project.

My Project

The resources will change the students ideas of how buildings were constructed and the steps that go into making them. It will also integrate the math component that is so prevalent in art. We will use all subject areas to focus in on how neighborhoods were put together and create a replica of our own city skyline. This project will require many drawings, this will require drawing papers and pencils. We also will need various materials that will allow us to construct buildings including paper, boards and paint for finished projects. We need tape, crayon, and glue as well. All these materials will allow us to really give our city a very realistic appearance and will give us a very exciting start to a great project. Our students will learn team work and visual creativity as well as the importance of good craftsmanship. They will focus on the four steps of art criticism, description, analysis, interpretation, and judgment.

This donation will help us to create a city scape that the children find so fascinating.

They are excited about what goes into the development of our great city. This project is important because the children are so interested in the structures and how they were designed that this would be a great opportunity for them to try their hand at putting together a city of their own. Students will use their imaginations and skills to create buildings using available materials.
