My students need recess equipment to fuel their minds - jump ropes and balls to improve their coordination and make recess a valuable time for all.

My Students

Thanks to your generosity, last year we received a number of jump ropes, some throwing and catching games and a few balls. I was so impressed with the improvement in jump-roping skills, basketball, and conflict resolution that happened between peers and between multi-grade levels.

Several students asked for jump ropes at home, others started bringing in their own equipment to play with.

We discovered hidden talents and skills in our students that we were unable to see before because we didn't have the tools. Thank you again!However, due to normal wear and tear some of this equipment needs replacing. Also, 12 jump ropes, 1 basketball, etc. This doesn't go far when there are 120 children on the playground at the same time! This year, we will also be sharing our recess time with the kindergartners, which means my 2nd graders will not be allowed in the jungle gym area.

My Project

I would like to expand our recess equipment collection this year so that students learn more skills, have more opportunity to problem solve, and, of course, have more opportunity to take part. We need some bouncing and kicking balls, catching games and replacement jump ropes. I am happy to say that the students did very well keeping track of their equipment last year and very little needs replacing – some balls ended up on the roof and some ropes broke – so your donation will be adding to every student’s experience and fighting obesity every day!

I am not writing this just for my class of 20.

Your donation will benefit nearly 200 students, not just this year, but each year for years to come. This small amount of equipment may not seem like much, but it is so much more than what we currently have. Most importantly, our brains need oxygen to work. Sitting in a classroom all day is pointless unless we have the fuel to make good use of our time. Recess, with proper games and activities, will enable every student to get smarter every day!
