Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My goal this year is to excite students about reading. In order for students to gain perspective on the world they need to read, learn and discuss the written text. Students need to find texts that are engaging to them.

Struggling readers are more likely to pick up books that they have chosen themselves, and graphic novels, in particular, are high-interest books.

Unfortunately, our school does not have the ability to purchase book sets during the school year so my students are often forced to go with what we have on hand. Those texts are less than high interest. Everything on this list is student-requested titles that they are desperate to get their hands on. With the donation of these new texts, we can get books into the hands of students that they want to read and by doing so, students will begin to build a foundation and love of learning.
