Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at my elementary school come from a variety of economic backgrounds with over 75% of our students receiving free and reduced lunch. My school is one of the most ethnically diverse in the area, with over 50% English Language Learners.

I teach at a Title I school where many of the students lack certain resources at home.

It is my responsibility that my second grade students have access at school to what they might not have at home.

My Project

Research shows that kids who read books that are of interest to them read more, know more words, and are better writers. We encourage our second grade students to choose books that follow the IPICK rule. They should look for books that set a PURPOSE for their learning, are of INTEREST to them, books they can COMPREHEND, and KNOW most of the words.

Once the students have picked their books, they need a place to keep them, and a book bin is the perfect place.

We have been using cardboard magazine holders but realize they need something more durable as they are used on a daily basis. We are asking for a class set of plastic book bins to hold our students' books.
