Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
These books will help diversify the library collection at our school. Our students need to see themselves represented in the books we have in our library. Students get excited and want to read books with characters that look like they do. The more they read, the better they will perform in all subjects.
Currently we have many outdated books that mostly represent a small "vanilla" percentage of our school population.
My goals for this project is to get more current, diverse, and relevant titles in our collection. This year many of our outdated books have been weeded from our collection, leaving many shelves in the library bare.
The students at our school are good kids who deserve quality books to read.
Donations to this project are now being matched, thanks to support from a family that cares about teachers. The family includes a former teacher, and they appreciate the opportunity to support projects posted by never-before-funded teachers in Equity Focus Schools this spring. We're wishing all the teachers who benefit from this match a healthy and happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
