Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school district is one of the largest in our state with over 22,000 students. And my high school is the largest school in the district with close to 2,000 students. Nearly all my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and our school is in a Title I district. My school has one of our district's "welcome centers"; many of my students are English language learners and are new to the country. Many of my students have part or full-time jobs as well. But what stands out the most is that our school has a strong sense of pride and functions as an extended family. Our students are amazing!
All students are eager to learn and experience all that the visual arts have to offer.
Although students have a variety of interests, many understand that the creativity and innovation that is explored in the art room provides them with skills they can take anywhere. Being able to provide my students with high-quality art supplies and materials will help allow them to be successful in all that they seek to achieve in the classroom.
My Project
15 years ago, when I worked in an elementary school, I dried artworks on the floor. After a few years of that, I was granted this exact drying rack and it was a game-changer! When I transferred schools I literally hugged my drying rack goodbye. Two schools later, I am now at a high school that needs a solid drying rack that can hold up to 325 artworks at a time. Additionally, we require a rack that can hold up from year to year.
Sure, there are cheaper drying racks out there but any art teacher will tell you, it is this, and only this drying rack that can stand up to all the wear and tear and the test of time.
This is by far the biggest ask I have made here on DonorsChoose but I know that this drying rack will end up bringing such joy to my students when they see it. They have eagerly been awaiting to begin painting and printing! Additionally, it will save on time and allow for each class to have more time working as opposed to cleaning up since loading work with this rack is a breeze. My students have endured hurdles and various forms of disruption over the past few years. They need to experience the social and emotional benefits of visual art and this drying rack will help achieve that goal.
