Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are mainly from a low-income neighborhood. We are also an overflow school so we incur new students all year long. Many of the students have switched school several times in their elementary career. This proposes several obstacles in teaching.
Our school is 100% free and reduced lunch.
There is no art program or music provided in our district. This is something that students enjoy tremendously and I strive to include both in my lessons. The state is pushing new science standards and the students are excelling in that area as well.
My students are voracious readers and even though many are below grade level, they are making great strides. They are curious and imaginative and I am so excited to foster these characteristics in them!
My Project
We recently had a teacher offer to come in to do art with our class on Fridays! In order to encourage students to participate and show off their efforts, I'd like to create a wall to showcase their work.
When students' work is posted, they take greater pride and try harder to produce something to be proud of.
We also would like to have paper available for the teacher who comes in. The butcher paper is a great resource for students to create a mural to show unity and school pride.
This paper will last the entire year and will provide enough material for an art project every week!
