This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 9th - 12th graders at a school where students struggle with motivation. This year especially with distance learning engagement is low. Computer Science should be fun and exciting, but without the ability to physically see your program have an effect on something they do not see the importance of it. When I've mentioned robotics, I see a light in many students eyes, yet I only have one robot available for them to program. With 4 classes of 30 students, 1 robot is not enough. Please help me have students re-engage through the use of robots that can be coded in class.

My Project

We have been programming in python, but the students are missing the opportunity to see how a physical object can respond to the program they type. Seeing text on the screen is not the same as watching something move.

The electronics and PLA filament will allow my students to work in small groups to print, assemble, and program these introductory robots to dance, move respond to light, sense their surroundings, and beep to show they are happy.

This will allow them introduction to another coding language as well as learning elements of physical computing and 3D printing!
