My scholars are compassionate, creative, hard workers who come to school excited to learn as much as they can. They love projects that allow them to work collaboratively to share their knowledge with others.
As scholars in our dual language program, we are learning to embrace the language of the community and the cultures in which our families come from.
My scholars come from families of migrant farm workers and understand that their education is a path to relieve the poverty around them.
In our classroom, our literacy and math centers are kept in plastic bins and baskets which are stored on a tall book shelf. Students are unable to reach the top shelves. With shorter shelves we will be able to reorganize our centers so that students can be fully independent during their work time.
Independence and responsibility are two character traits that are emphasized in first grade so being able to practice these skills is crucial.
Shorter shelves that are student friendly will help save time during small group instruction and help students feel empowered in their learning.
An iPad charging station will allow me to remove the cumbersome iPad cart from our classroom and allow students to independently charge their devices as needed.
