My Project

I co-teach a science class in an alternative school in which students sometimes struggle to complete classes. They come to us for many reasons, and our job is to meet them where they are, whenever they show up, and to help them be successful in moving toward graduation. They often have not found success and a positive sense of belonging elsewhere. So we strive to make it happen here.

Our school is undertaking an initiative to switch over to Modern Classroom, an approach in which students work at their own pace, listening to teacher-created videos to learn and freeing the teacher to meet with students individually or in small groups to give them the focused attention they need.

In order to do this, everything needs to be organized so students know what to do to keep the classroom running while I'm meeting with those who need help.

Self-paced learning gives students voice and choice and will help them to take control of their learning experience. A class set of headphones will help them focus on the videos they will be assigned, and the folder system will help them easily locate their materials and get to work right away on making progress toward mastery and course completion.
