Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
All the students are in a STEAM school. We are encouraging them in every way to become future scientists, technologists, engineers, artists, and mathematicians.
Our school is not only a STEAM (science, engineering, arts, math, and technology) school, but we are also a Title I school in southern Arizona.
Ninety-nine percent of our students receive free lunch and more than 1/2 of the students are English Language Learners (ELL) including refugees from Africa, Asia, Mexico, and the Middle East. Most students are in low-income housing, living in neighborhood apartments, and trailer parks. Most of our parents are working very hard to provide for their children and get them to school. That being said, most students are eager to come to school to learn.
My Project
The number line math pocket chart will enable my students to have a clear visual representation of how to manipulate numbers on the number line.
The life science pocket chart will be a great way to introduce and practice various life cycles to enhance their science skills.
The calendar math pocket chart is going to allow my students to be able to practice daily math skills in a whole group setting.
Finally, the tabletop communication center is going to allow me to organize their construction paper for their ease of use in a variety of projects. All these items are demonstrating a key aspect in AVID which is organization. In order for our students to learn it, we have to model it!
