I am teaching 6th grade mathematics at a middle school in Georgia which ranked #463 out of 479 middle schools in Georgia.

My students have faced many obstacles in their personal lives (93% qualify for free or reduced lunch) and are many years behind in their math content knowledge. However, their mental capacity and ability to absorb information is equivalent to that of their peers from affluent communities. I have the highest expectations for my students and I am going to do everything in my power to help them succeed!

My Project

The theme of my classroom is “The Road to Success”. As a 6th grade teacher I have the enormous responsibility of starting my students down the path to college and giving them the tools to stay on this path. One of the important tools of success is organization. I want every one of my students to have a 3 ring binder divided into sections. This organization will ensure my students are incredibly efficient studiers. Furthermore, we will have a routine for organizing our notebooks, which will maximize learning time. My students will leave these binders in the classroom so that they won’t misplace papers and so that I can write them personal notes after school. As much as I would love to provide each of my students with binders fully stocked with dividers and notebook paper, this is not feasible. And for my student’s families, it is not feasible to even purchase one binder for their child.

Organization is just the tip of the iceberg towards changing my student’s life trajectories and making sure they are on “The Road to Success”.

I will also teach my students the value of hard work, malleable intelligence, and the importance of education. Please help me buy binders for my students and we together can change their life trajectory. As organized students they will be “Top Finishers” on the “Road to Success”.
