Help me give my students a comfortable and organized classroom. I am a sixth-grade teacher in Worcester, Massachusetts, working with a bright and energetic group of 40 students who rotate through my classroom throughout the day.
Sixth grade is a pivotal year. It’s when students begin developing greater independence, deeper critical thinking skills, and a stronger sense of identity — both as learners and as individuals. But these things can only flourish in a space that supports their needs. Right now, our classroom furniture and organizational systems are limited, mismatched, or worn, and many students struggle to stay focused or feel truly comfortable during long stretches of the school day. Your generous support would help provide resources that allow our space to become more inviting, functional, and inclusive.
We are asking for help to secure comfortable seating options, classroom storage solutions, and flexible furniture that will better accommodate the learning styles and needs of our diverse group of students.
Items such as stools, floor cushions, organization bins, and shelving will not only increase classroom efficiency, but also help students feel calm and secure — something that’s incredibly important at this age.
These improvements aren’t about making the classroom “look nice” — they are about creating a space where students feel they belong, can take ownership of their learning, and can engage more meaningfully with the content and one another. An area rug will provide a comfortable setting for our class to gather as a family and debrief for the day as well as hold morning meeting. A well-organized classroom helps students transition smoothly between activities, minimizes distractions, and gives them a sense of pride in their space.
Every single item funded through this project will be used daily by our sixth graders — from group work at flexible tables, to independent reading in soft seating, to storing materials in easy-to-reach bins. These tools will not only benefit this year’s students but will serve hundreds of children in years to come.
