Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Many of the students in my classroom have experienced trauma in their lives, and school is their safe place. They come to school to escape what is happening at home. My classroom serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder, and specific learning disabilities.

The typical student in my class struggles with basic phonemic awareness and letter recognition.

About 90% of my students are African American or Latino. The opportunity and achievement gaps are apparent among our student population.

My Project

I am requesting a rolling book case for my leveled library. Recently, some furniture was damaged at our school and I had to throw out the bookcase that held the leveled library. I need a space that I can designate for the library books that the students have access to. These books are used during literacy centers and free choice time. So, I need a space that is easily accessed and can be mobile if we need it to be. Our classrooms are ever changing and we need some flexible furniture options to help the learning process each and every day.
