Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Think back to your fondest memories of school. You probably felt safe and showed up with a good night's sleep. Your only concern was to do your best to learn. All children deserve this privilege; to play, to learn, to be joyful and stress-free.

My students are warriors, battling everyday to master the same concepts as all fourth graders despite language frustrations, parent deportations, financial stresses, cultural identity and low self-esteem.

Yet, they prevail! They are so resilient and they have surpassed my expectations, inspiring me to be a better teacher everyday.

I have witnessed students who read at a Kinder level in English and finish the year at a third grade level. I have seen students who were uninspired and could've fallen through the cracks, be transformed once their interest is piqued and they feel inspired.

For many of my students, this is a bigger fight than to simply pass the school year. They put their all into their education, aware of the sacrifices their family made to get here and to afford them opportunities they didn't have themselves. I, too, am fighting for my students and their families and I hope you can help me to help them.

My Project

Chart paper can be hard to come by in schools, but the quality of the Post-It sticky chart paper is extremely useful when creating anchor charts that stay on the wall for several days. The vinyl dots will be stuck on the guided reading table where students can partake in the daily practice of spelling sight words with their dry erase markers. How wonderful to not hear the banging of dry erase boards or finding a place to store them. These dots are perfect!

Students can carry some nasty germs with them but with the hand sanitizer bottles and the hand soap, our classroom will have what it takes to fight off bacteria, especially when it's flu season!

Every classroom needs a good pocket chart! This chart will be very useful in its display of new vocabulary, visuals and language structures for our emerging bilingual students.
