My Project

An organized special education classroom supports both the quality of teaching and students’ ability to navigate the environment independently. A well-structured space promotes student autonomy and reduces reliance on adult assistance.

In a special education classroom, it is important to explicitly teach activities of daily living to foster independence.

For example, students can learn to use a visual schedule to follow the classroom routine and navigate the school day, retrieve necessary items to complete a task, identify labeled areas within the classroom to transition appropriately, and clean up after activities by placing items into clearly labeled bins based on category.

The materials on my list—such as bins, a laminator, pouches, cardstock paper, and Velcro—are all intended to support student independence. These tools will be used to label classroom areas, create visual schedules, and organize materials in ways that are accessible and manageable for students.
