Junior and senior year students are at a pivotal moment in their academic lives. They are getting ready to move from high school into a college or career experience and this can be incredibly stressful. More than ever, students feel the pressure to perform well in school and as a classroom teacher my goal is to create a learning environment that promotes success for all of my students.
I teach an incredibly diverse group of AP Literature and eleventh grade college preparatory students.
Our school is committed to educational equity and as a result my AP classes consist of students from a variety of backgrounds - there are students in my classes from Stamford's most affluent areas and students with parents who work multiple jobs to support their families. My eleventh grade students are equally diverse and since mine is a co-taught SPED class their learning needs are many and varied.
My hope is that with the support of Donor's Choose I can outfit my classroom with the tools and resources to support the 21st century learning needs of all of my students.
My Project
The students in my eleventh grade college prep inclusion class need help with their executive functioning skills. Many of my students have never used an academic planner before and struggle to remember what has been assigned and when particular assignments are due. If I can give every student his or her own planner then I can help them learn how to keep track of their school assignments and activities.
Organization is a key component of academic success!
With your support, these planners will help a class of students with diverse learning needs lay the foundation for an outstanding school year.
