My Students

The students at our school are resilient and kind. The last year and a half has been a challenge for people all over the world, and the children in my class have faced those challenges with unbelievable understanding and flexibility. In addition to the pandemic, I have just taken over this class from another teacher whose medical needs have prevented her from being here for the last two months. Unfortunately, this has not provided these kids with very much consistency this year. We are also part of a low income community, and many of my students do not have a comfortable place to feel safe and relaxed enough that they can allow themselves to focus on their academics.

Despite all of this, my students come to class with smiles on their face and eager to see what each day will bring them.

I am continually impressed with their exuberant energy and interest in whatever we're doing in class. My goal is to create a classroom community that is inclusive and comfortable for all students, so that they have every opportunity to succeed and thrive!

My Project

This year has been a rollercoaster for my students. I have recently taken over this class since the teacher they started the year with has had to withdraw from their position because of health concerns. Due to this, they have had two months of substitute teachers and not very much consistency in classroom procedures. Many of them are disorganized and do not have the materials they need to be successful.

This project will help this class get on the same page with materials, while also allowing students to get and stay organized.

I am hoping to provide consistency through classroom procedures and daily routine. These materials will provide organizational strategies and skills that can be carried throughout the student's academic career and their personal life.
