My Students

Our school motto is "Learning Is Our Top Priority" and I take that very seriously. However, many of my students in our rural community come from low-income families and have difficulty coming to school with basic supplies. I have seen this need increase as a direct result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Because of this I try to keep my classroom stocked with items that will not only spark an interest in what we are learning, but thier creativity as well.

I have noticed, that no matter what life throws at my students they are trying, even under our current circumstances.

Due to the pandemic many students are behind on important standards that require access to different types of text, and the development of skills that will help them comprehend what they read.

That being said, each of my students are bright, fun, unique individuals with a range of interests and talents. I ask them to give me their best each day and I do the same for them.

My Project

I teach ELA and Social Studies and try to create memorable cross curricular experiences that will help my students remember the concepts we are learning about. I am asking for paper, sharpies, colored pencils, hanging file folders and sheet protectors that will be used to create many different types of student centered learning stations. The lamination supplies will allow me to create centers that can be resused each year and the rolling cart will keep activities and games organized so students can quickly find what they need for weekly learning stations.

Within these learning stations I like to include access to different types of informational text.

The Time for Kids articles will help my students practice important reading skills like; main idea, and theme, as well as using text evidence to support thier answers. These are important skills for students to grasp in order to be successful.

Covid has also impacted how well prepared my students are when they get to class. For instance one way to try and help slow the spread of Covid was to have students carry thier books and supplies to class instead of using lockers. Those restrictions have eased, however many of my students still carry heavy backpacks to each class throughout the day. I would like the ability for each of my students to store thier resource folders and assignments in class, so they are prepared and ready to learn when they walk in the door. The sloted file organizer would give my students that ability and the folders will be used to store their resourse papers and assignments. This will ensure that they don't waste time digging through thier backpacks only to find that what they need is missing. These supplies would give us more time to for what is truly important...Learning!
