Reading opens the door in so many ways. Our leaders in 6th grade are ready to take full advantage of the journey reading allows.
Our sixth grade leaders are composed of 41 awesome students, many of these students come from households that receive free or reduced price lunch.
Rigorous academics and a safe learning environment are major factors to the students we serve in grades K through 6. As a result, we are consistently one of the top-performing school districts in the state every year. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in middle school, high school, and college/career.
My Project
During the course of the school year our classroom needs to be "refilled" with basic supplies to allow daily routine to happen. This year we implemented learning centers in our daily routine (starting as a project) which has caused us to use many supplies such as color paper, chart paper, and pencils at a rapid rate. The use of these supplies has led us to the success in the mastery of many standards, and it is only the middle of the year.

In our mid-year benchmark, we saw students achieve their growth goal by several points and averaged 112% in growth all together. The implementation of the learning centers in a 6th grade classroom is not something one may see regularly, but in this class it has had a dramatic effect on student engagement and student achievement.
Organization has always been said to be the key to success. The use of the colored paper and organization trays help keep students in each center organized. Many of the centers are directed to be as cooperative learning experience; the chart paper, markers, and pencils help allow the ideas of each student, not only to be heard but seen, as well. Students will simply be able to work with each other cooperatively with these "random" but useful and much need supplies.
