"A place for everything, everything in its place." - Benjamin Franklin.
This quote could not be more appropriate in a math classroom where organization is key. There certainly is a difference between $2.50 and $250.
My students are 7th and 8th grade Algebra students who are very hard working in an unfamiliar area to them.
They have been taking a math class for years and were very successful but that math world that they have become accustomed to changes when they reach Algebra. Who would have thought math would consist of more letters than numbers? My students are working to achieve success in this challenging area of math as well as new common core standards.
My Project
The document camera will allow my students to display their work for the entire class in a very short amount of time. It will also helps us to utilize resources that we do not have a copy of every student to have on their desks but they will be able to easily access the resource with the projector we currently have and the document camera.
Math is obviously a very procedural focused subject area especially in the complex world of Algebra. The calculator storage cases and the organizing cart will help my students learn the value of everything having a place and being organized both in our classroom physically and in their math activities and work that they will be working on everyday. It will teach them additional lessons of resourcefulness and responsibility by giving them easy access to materials when they are located in a centralized location and the ability to utilize them if they are returned to where they belong.
This project will help improve my classroom because the materials we use frequently will be more easily accessible to my students.
Valuable classroom time will not have to be lost with distribution of these materials if the students have places where they can find the necessary materials they need for various activities when they need them. Not all groups in my room are working on the same exact activity at the same exact time so they can manage their time best when the room is organized.
