Writing about what makes my students special is extremely difficult for me to do because there are not enough words in the English language that can describe how much my students mean to me. I currently teach a fully inclusive fourth grade class at a public school located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I have a total of 42 unique, diverse, and devoted students in my classroom. A majority of my students are English language learners. Everyday, I learn something new about them. That is what makes my classroom special, their cultural backgrounds. I am proud to teach in a school that celebrates diversity.
The staff is made up of highly qualified educators, instilling a sense of pride and urgency for education in our students.
As a result, our school has been named one of the top performing schools in the district for the past five years. As educators, we take pride in this accomplishment but all of the recognition should be directed towards the students and parents. Parent involvement is an essential component for the success of the students in my classroom and I am so thankful for all of their support and consistency over the past few years.
My Project
Due to the overwhelming increase in our school population, I was asked to instruct an oversized fourth grade classroom. My current classroom size is 42 children. I have had to adjust my teaching style to accommodate all of the learning needs in my classroom. This experience has taught me the importance of organization and procedures.
In order to effectively teach, we must provide our children with a safe and welcoming environment.
These resources will help me maintain a sense of peace and will also promote a positive learning space. For example, the book bins will be used in our classroom library to help categorize the books by reading level. The material caddies will also help make materials accessible to the students in the front and back of the room. Movement throughout the classroom will be at a minimum.
I would love to provide a energetic and engaging environment that promotes self exploration and positive learning experiences. It takes a village, and we need your help!
