This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Being a teacher in a high-poverty area means my students face challenges inside the classroom and outside of the classroom. They lack basic supplies for learning in the classroom. As their teacher, I try my hardest to give them the tools to strive in the classroom.
My students are creative, innovative, and will make a difference.
My first graders love to try new things but often aren't given the opportunity. Most students are being raised in single parent homes or with other family members. They also are all offered free breakfast and lunch at school to be sure they are provided with nutrients to fuel their brains during the school day. They might not have everything some other students do in other areas of the country, but they will change the world just as fast.
My Project
The classroom library should be an area to escape and get caught up in a great book. My students need a carpet and bean bags to get comfortable while reading in the classroom. The bean bag chairs would be perfect for the space and motivate the students to read.
I want my classroom to be a bright, beautiful and comfortable space for my students to learn, every day.
Some of the decor in the classroom lacks color. I would love to add some brightness to engage the children. I've requested some fun and neon colored decorations to add around the classroom to make things pop as you enter. My students also do not have basic supplies like pencils, pencil cases, and art supplies. I would love for them to have these items to stay organized and also have some fun at the same time.
