My Students

I am a fourth-grade reading, writing and social studies teacher at a Title I school in Virginia. We are a Pre-K through 8th grade building. Nearly 900 students call our school their "home." Between my two classes, I teach nearly 50 students, including students receiving special education services, English Language Learners, as well as gifted learners.

For many of our students, school is more than just a place to learn, but a source of stability and nurturing.

Some of our students have been through more in their young lives than most adults. Norfolk is home to the largest Naval Base in the world. Many of our families are part of the military, which means that many of our students have to deal with one, or even both, of their parents being on deployment for long periods of time.

My hope is to provide the students with a safe and fun place to learn! Over the years, I have worked very hard at turning our classroom into our "Home Sweet Classroom!"

My Project

It's no secret that the recent events and circumstances surrounding the Coronavirus have impacted our families. While virtual learning continues, our classroom door has closed for the remainder of the year. We are a very hands on classroom, so our learning has changed drastically. I cannot wait to return to our home next year and continue teacher the way I love.

Thinking ahead, it is my goal to provide my students with all of the supplies they need for the year.

The materials in this project will provide the basic materials my students need in the fall, thus lessening the burden placed on our parents to get these materials for their children.

Each student has two color coded folders that we use to organize our classwork and writing. Inside each of them, we put page protectors for important materials that the students reference all year. Since my students switch classes and share a desk, it is important that their papers all have a safe place to go! Unlike paper folders, the plastic folders hold up throughout the whole year.
