Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a small, public, STEM high school in urban Colorado. The vast majority of our students are first generation Americans coming from a low socioeconomic background and are having to process various traumas and situations well beyond their years.
Our students know what it means to have to overcome adversity.
They have lived their whole lives believing that they do not deserve the same chances and opportunities that are afforded to people that look different from them. What most people don’t know is that our students are unbelievably deserving, smart, curious, and a family.
Our students help support each other and push each other to be the best versions of themselves. They are my daily inspiration and an incredible group of individuals. I consider myself lucky to be able to make a fraction of the impact on their lives as they have on mine.
My Project
The Technology Student Association (TSA) enhances personal development, leadership, and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), where members apply and integrate these concepts through intracurricular activities, competitions, and related programs.
By donating to our project, you are helping increase student achievement and supporting teachers by providing an engaging opportunity to develop STEM skills and helping students learn how to lead in a technical world.
With this donation our students will be taking their STEM knowledge and projects and competing at the Colorado State TSA conference.
For most of our students this will not only be their first opportunity to get to stay in a hotel, but to also get to socialize with students their age from other backgrounds. Opportunities like these can be life changing for our students. Having this chance is a starting point for our students to come back the next school year motivated to better themselves and their lives.
