Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Could you imagine not having the basic supplies necessary to learn on top of having a severe learning disability? Give the most at-risk students the supplies they need to not only achieve academic success, but to empower their teacher with technology accessories for creative teaching.
My special education students are 6th graders with severe learning disabilities and are all below the poverty line.
Apart from struggling from the social challenges - broken families, violence, lack of resources - my students struggle to interpret visual and auditory information in ways that severely impact their ability to learn. This requires creative teaching using a variety of tools for representation and expression of learning as well as consistent motivation and encouragement.
My Project
My students frequently lack the basic supplies - pencils, notebooks, pencil boxes to be able to utilize during the school year. This will supply them with these basic supplies at the start of the school year. Additionally, our school lacks the funds to purchase basic supplies that we need such as a power cord for our computer, an ipad adapter to connect it to the projector, and student white boards for checking student understanding. Also, we have only 1 janitor for a campus with 1800+ students and thus teachers have to clean their own classrooms and need cleaning supplies.
This donation will help supply critical resources to LA's most disadvantaged students - students living in poverty with severe learning disabilities.
It will empower their teacher to have the necessary supplies to teach using creative interactive techniques and instructional technology.
