What are the benefits of teaching theatre at an early age? How does it assist students in being successful? Students who participate in the fine arts are more likely to be successful in their mainstream academics. With theatre, students are able to work on memory skills, social interactions, and are exposed to a wide variety of cultural plays and elements. There are numerous benefits to the performing arts that are often times overlooked in favor of academics.
These students are funny and quirky and have an immense passion for theatre.
My students are a mix of exceptional, regular, and gifted students. They each have their own struggles, but they always overcome their obstacles. They show a desire to constantly improve and work on their skills. My program has very little money allocated to it. The expectation is to produce two plays this year, and with such a small budget meeting this expectation is extremely difficult. I really hope to grow this program to benefit not only this group of students, but the students that are to come in the future.
My Project
As a theatre program, my students and I tend to have many unique supplies, and lots of them. We get donations of costumes and props, and while we do weed through what we don't need, we still end up needing a place to store everything. My students will be using bins to organize and store our many props, tools, and other materials. They will be using the clothing racks to learn how to care for and maintain costumes that are used during the course of a show.
The use of these items is going to help my students understand what it means to store and take care of props and costumes for a show.
Theatre is not always being out on stage in the limelight. There is a lot that happens behind the scenes and my students understand this. Often, they try to help me get creative with storing our props, costumes, and equipment. Having bins and costume racks will assist greatly with this task. Plus, organizational skills are always a good thing for students to learn to help them in the future.
