I am a first-grade teacher at a K-3 school in southern Maine. The school that I work at has a diverse community of learners with a wide range of financial security. Located in close proximity to a naval base, we have a large population of military families, so roster changes throughout the school year are frequent. Our school works hard to be a place where the needs of all students are met, and we are invested in helping children to be caring and well-rounded learners.
I love the energy and enthusiasm that each of my first graders brings to our classroom.
Along with that energy comes a unique personality and learning style. I work hard to get to know each of my students and to find different ways to help them do their best learning in my classroom each day.
My Project
There is so much to teach and so much to learn in first grade. My students are eager to explore materials, build, read, write and create. This can be challenging when papers pile up, markers get misplaced, and books get buried!
A well organized classroom will allow my students to learn and grow as much as possible, without valuable instructional time being wasted as we look for supplies!
The addition of storage bins will allow our building toys, math manipulatives and art supplies to stay organized in the closet when they are not in the rotation. Covered bins will allow me to sort activities and books needed for various topics in by month, so that they are easy to find. The rolling cart will allow materials for reading groups to be sorted and ready for use, and the paper tray will offer students many different types of paper to use during writing time. Please help me and my students get organized and stay organized so that we can make the most of class time!
