“Honey is sweet, and so is knowledge, but knowledge is like the bee that made that sweet honey, you have to chase it through the pages of a book." I want to allow my students to experience a taste of that sweet honey by providing a variety of well loved texts for them to explore.
My students are inquisitive, bright and energetic!
I work in a high poverty, suburban school district with students from every background. Our school is located right in the neighborhood from which my students come. They come to school every day eager to learn and curious about the world around them.
My Project
I can't tell you how excited I will be to receive the plastic book tubs. I plan on using them right away! The ones we currently have are in a sorry state. About half of them are cracked and breaking apart. The tubs I have requested are quite sturdy and durable enough to endure life with energetic third graders!
I am also very excited about the book sets I have selected. I have chosen texts that have proven to be class favorites of the past. Often, I will read a book aloud to the class, which quickly becomes the hot ticket item. I would like to give more students opportunities to read those favorite books at the same time. I have also chosen books to support our current curriculum focuses: mystery and biography. Students cannot get enough of these genres. I want to give them a classroom rich in print and instill in them the love of reading at an early age.
The funding of this project will make an immeasurable impact in my classroom.
First of all, the books tubs are very much needed. Our books are sorted according to genre and or level, and because some of the tubs are broken, books are spilling off the shelves. Receiving the tubs will help keep our books organized and help students be able to select them quickly. More importantly, I want to put books that I know my students have loved, year after year, in their hands.
