This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school has always focused on its Spanish Program, but we have moved to a Dual Language Program to meet the needs of diverse learners in both languages. Our families are excited about the opportunity of having their children learning two languages.
Students in our school come from diverse backgrounds including gifted and talented, English Language Learners, and students from diverse income levels.
We have students with a wide range of needs and proficiency reading levels. Most of our students participate in Free and Reduced Price School Meals, so most books you find in our students' hands are provided by us.
My Project
For years, we have been helping our students do that in Spanish and now to help them succeed we know they must have the opportunity in both languages. They have been finding and loving great Spanish books in our classroom but missing out on great English books.
We want to encourage our kids to jump into the pleasures of reading and be transported to stories and places that they may only see through stories but mostly I want them to fall in love with reading.
These books are not randomly selected but carefully chosen to compliment our thematic units of study and also to reflect our community.
