My students are eager and energetic first graders. We pride ourselves in showing great character in and out of our classroom. We are Jr. Panthers! Our 'Just Be Jersey' theme is seen in our district and within the community loud and proud! We have students from smaller outlying towns that come to our building for Pre-K through 1st grade. My first graders are excited about listening to our book of the week. These first grade experts then take and re-read to one another in our 'read to self' and 'read to someone' literacy time. They also use the texts to make connections and complete comprehension, writing, and word work activities throughout the week. Unfortunately, at this time we only have limited amounts of these books available in the classroom or through our library.
My Project
Our first grade students in our classroom will have the opportunity to share literature within the classroom on a daily basis. Additional copies of each book will be available for students to use during literacy activities such as, 'read to someone or self' and small group comprehension, word work and writing activities. My students are eager and excited to find out the book of the week each Monday. They also enjoy going back and reviewing past books that we had throughout the school year. My students have a huge smile on their faces when they are able to see and share literature in the classroom that they may not have at home. Reading and sharing is 'Pawesome' in our classroom because we are Jr. Panthers!
