My Students

Do you remember the first book you ever enjoyed reading on your own? That book that made you want to find more just like it? The one that opened the door the wonder of reading? I do. Unfortunately, my students don't have that memory yet.

My students want access to the magic hidden in the pages of new books.

I teach at a Title I elementary school with predominantly low income students. I am lucky to teach a group of caring students who are excited to learn and meet new challenges. However, my wonderful students often lack access to new books in their homes and can't reach the public library. This means that they can only take home one new book a week from our school library. That's simply not enough.

My Project

How do you get good readers? Let them read, read, read! My students need access to more high interest books that they can read independently at home! I teach in a predominantly low income elementary school, where my students who most need to read don't have access to books they're excited about at home.

Please help me give my students the magic of a good book.

Each night, I let my intervention students take home one of my books to read and return. They are so excited to have access to a book they can enjoy on their own time! But, I don't have enough for them. They're such hungry readers and with your help, I can feed their growing minds with the wonder of a new book each night.
