This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I provide speech and language services to 60 kiddos grades K-2 as well as some with more severe to profound needs. The children I work with enjoy hands on, creative, and fully immersive activities. The town in which I work is small which is great for building a strong sense of community and support. But this small town also comes with a cost such as limiting opportunities and employment for the families that live within it. As a result, while my students are compassionate and sweet they do not always have easy access to resources and supplies that they need for success academically. Working with these student's day in and day out has created this drive in me to do whatever is within my power to provide my students with as many tools, as I can, to increase their chances of success not just academically but in life as well.
My Project
I will be completely honest, articulation drills are not always fun for many of my students but unfortunately in order to remediate their sounds they NEED to practice and NEED to be drilled. I also have students, even after TONS of encouragement, that are embarrassed about the fact that they produce their sounds incorrectly. As a result I am CONSTANTLY searching for fun and creative ways to keep my kiddos engaged and actually WANTING to participate. Enter these Alphabet Teaching Tubs; which allow for hands practice not only for articulation but also the ability to work on skills related to letter sounds, vocabulary, sorting, and even memory!
