Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are excited to learn but often times feel disconnected with standard academic topics. Finding ways for them to explore and interact with the world around them and the content in their books is paramount.
My students come from diverse backgrounds and are always eager to learn and be challenged.
They are a creative bunch and I do my best to provide them with challenging, meaningful activities, but with impending budget disasters, this often becomes difficult, even with basic classroom supplies like paper.
It's not only the money, but also the environment. My students want to learn. My students also feel it's very important that content in the classroom has application and connection with the world around them. I am always trying to instill and help them create this connection with the world around them.
My Project
Our district has made a tremendous effort to get more technology in the hands of students. Every core class at my school has a full set of Chromebooks to enhance student engagement in learning and open the doors of technology use. As great as that is, they didn't plan on teachers needing the same technology.
Designing and executing lessons for students to access key concepts is difficult if we as teachers don't have the same tech tools readily available to us.
Although we can usually make use of an unused Chromebook in class, we can't take them home, which is where much of the planning and designing of curriculum happens.
This next year I will be having an increasing number of special needs students in my class, which will require me to be much more mobile in my classroom. The Samsung Chromebook Pro will help increase this mobility as I will be able to demonstrate the lesson on a one on one basis. It also allows for sketching and students to show work to the class as a whole because of the integrated pen feature. All in all, this will allow me to better support a wider variety of learning tasks and student needs in my classroom.
