My Students

My students are AMAZING! I am teaching online and have students living all over the state and all different economics and ethnicities. They came to me this year with their abilities ranging more than I've ever seen in one classroom. I have some students who started the year still needing to learn letter sounds, while other students are reading a grade or two ahead.

The best thing is that doing Middle of Year testing I found that ALL of them have made growth and progress.

This is one of my favorite things about teaching. Seeing and celebrating their growth. They are working so hard at becoming better readers and better students.

Besides all the time we spend learning, we love to get to know each other and learn and celebrate our differences. One of my favorite moments was when I was telling the class that we were losing one classmate, who was returning to brick-and-mortar, and gaining 5 new students. One of my students said, "5 students are not worth losing Izziy." I love the connections they have made!

My Project

My school is online only. Getting kids to participate, attend and work can be very difficult. I am bribing with incentives and parties all the time. Many of my students don't have all the tools, resources or support that they need.

I am always looking for ways to make online learning more engaging.

Small group reading, with students holding their own books would be amazing. Stocking up my prizes would be so helpful. A fun valentine and spring party helps make connections and encourage students to keep coming, participating and working hard.
