Our neighborhood is changing and growing. It is becoming more ethnically diverse as the years pass. We are a school nestled in a major urban city. The community has a rich history, and the school serves the neighborhood children and families. Our school provides 100% of the student free or reduced-priced lunch daily. Our Title I school has an International Baccalaureate program that focuses on facilitating a global learning environment for all students.
"The idea of belonging shouldn't be considered a privilege available to only some students...It should be a basic human right." - Linda MullenThe school is made up of a population of general ed and students with special needs. It is my sincere hope that I am able to provide a classroom environment where all students feel safe to participate learn, and grow.
The population of our school and the landscape of the community we serve is changing. The students in our class need access to a print-rich environment with exposure to English and Spanish text. In Pre-K we facilitate real-world experiences through dramatic play. We are in need of materials that encourage the development of oral language. The children's grocery store and food items will help the students learn from each other through play. The food items are multicultural so that students are exposed to various types of cuisine.
The donation to this project will help improve my students' understanding of fair play, expose them to other cultures, and promote a celebration of similarities and differences among friends.
By integrating bilingual books, puzzles, and toys the students will begin to see themselves represented in our classroom. This representation shows respect for different cultures and helps build pride and self-esteem in the students. The benefits of having the materials from this project are immeasurable. Thank you in advance for your support of our class!
