My students are from a large, urban community that welcomes families from all over the globe. They bring a special blend of linguistic diversity, background knowledge, prior experiences and culture to our school. We are a Title I school in a low-income community, and I have twenty-eight students in my class. Free breakfast and free lunch are available to every child in our building each day.
I grew up in this city, and I truly believe I am meant to teach here and give back all I can to my hometown.
My school is a magical place. Despite the challenging home lives of many, my students walk in the door of our quaint little building and are welcomed with heartfelt greetings and genuine smiles, and they are ready to be the best they can be.
Our staff provides specific academic, emotional, and behavioral support to students to meet their specific needs so they can reach their personal potential. I am blessed to witness incredible student growth during each school year, a result of the dedication of my colleagues and hard work of our students.
My Project
When you walk into a classroom, what do you usually see for furniture? Desks! Well, some kids do not learn best sitting down. In fact, sitting can be the most distracted position for some students. And, when they sit for longer periods of time, they become increasingly disengaged.
Some students will learn better with the option to stand, rather than sit.
I am asking for four stand up desks for my classroom so that my students can choose to stand if they feel this is optimal for their learning. These desks can be easily pushed together for collaboration or moved apart for independent work. We appreciate you supporting our project.
