My students are coming in from three VERY different feeder schools. This alone makes middle school very frightening. Our student body consists of 480 plus seventh and eighth graders who come from diverse backgrounds. 60% of our students come from a low socio-economic background. I have a few supplies that the students can use, but we would love to have a few more supplies so that the students can be grouped in order to make this the best year they have ever had in school!
My Project
For many of my seventh graders reading is hard, but comprehension is harder. I have my students complete a lot of projects based on the theme or the characters in our literature. This helps to put them in the story and reinforces comprehension as well.
Plain black and white paper and ink is boring!
We want our projects to come to life and leap off the paper. By providing my classroom with these much needed supplies like markers and colored paper, that is exactly what will happen. Not only will they be able to jazz up their projects with color, they will also have the ability to become part of the story themselves!
