Our students struggle to stay engaged in school. Sports provide an outlet for them. Our students come from a low income, high poverty area. 98% of our students are on free and/or reduced lunch. The majority of the students can not afford to go to camps, buy sports equipment or pay for sports programs. My goal is to provide these students with the opportunity to learn the fundamentals, stay engaged and feel a purpose of belonging. On the courts is where these students have a safe place and learn life skills.
I am requesting volleyballs and a net so that we can use them for program specific training, with a focus on upcoming 6th and 7th grade girls interested in playing volleyball.
Our program needs a new net. The measurement tools to make sure that the girls are learning how to set and measure the nets to make sure they are at regulation height.
The catch device will help the girls by training for accuracy in their passing. The speed ladders will help the students develop better speed and agility for cross court movement and moving to the ball.
The jump ropes and vertical tester will allow us to work on cardio training and jumping skills with the girls. Vertical jumping is a key component in a successful volleyball player. They will use that in blocking and hitting. The score cards will allow us to accurately record scores in challenge games and scrimmages.
Each piece of equipment requested will help us be providing the critical equipment needed to develop our program. I provide summer sports conditioning classes, free of charge to our student-athletes. With your help, we are hoping to get the much-needed equipment to help us provide basic skills and team building that keeps are kids engaged and active.
