My Students

My students come from diverse backgrounds and the majority reside in low-income homes. They are extremely excited about learning, but resources are limited. As first graders, they are learning to read as well as developing their reading fluency skills.

We are hoping to build a classroom library of contemporary books that reflect many different voices and perspectives.

Many of my students do not have access to reading materials that are inclusive of their interests, personalities, and backgrounds. Providing them with books that are exciting to them will inspire them to read more. Please help me bridge the gap!

My Project

Frederick Douglas was quoted as saying "Once you learn to read, you will be forever free." My students are at a critical turning point in their lives as they are learning to read. Laying the foundation and developing this skill at an early age will forever impact their lives and open the doors to a future with many opportunities. You may never know the full impact of your donation, but each of my students will know that you cared enough to nurture their potential. With your donation, they will be able to read books that are inclusive of their personalities, cultures and diverse interests. Thank you for your donation!
