This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Frederick Douglass once said, "Once you learn to read, you will be forever free". Once a student is literate no one can take that away from them. Reading proficiently by the end of third grade is a crucial marker in a child's educational development and linked to success in their future education.. Failure to read proficiently is linked to students higher rates of school dropout. In the third grade we encourage students to read at least 8 books a week. This helps students to be successful in the 4th grade and transition from learning to read to reading to learn.

As we start off 2024 it is my goal to provide my students with a collection of new books to read, which will support their reading development.

As a first year teacher my personal classroom library is still limited, and my students are running out of books to read. They deserve the chance to continue to grow their love for reading, and the ability to succeed in the years to come.
